REPORTS

President's Report 2019

“Firstly, I would like to thank all of you for attending the meeting. I would also like to thank the committee for their contributions to the success of the club over the past year, including the new surface of the courts.

ANNA HUNT. Anna played a major role in liaising with our supplier “TIGER TURF”and getting the job done. Anna has been a committee member for 8 years and feels it is time to move on. We thank Anna for all she has done.

RON HALL is another member of the committee who is moving on. Ron took over from Jamie Gatehouse. We are very grateful to Ron for the work he has done in his current 3 years as Treasurer and of course his 9 years previously. I also thank Peter Baker for assisting the club in doing a review of the Treasurer’s Report.

Now to the Pennant Teams. Congratulations to the Men’s team on their recent Flag defeating Royal South Yarra in the final. (Those present who played in the final please stand: Bill Katelis and Alan Attwood).

The Ladies team continue to represent our club in the hope of winning another flag, while at the same time enjoying their tennis.

The recent JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS run by Nicole Bruce Smith was a great success with over 70 players across 6 age groups. The competition continued through rain and shine. Nicole spent countless hours co-ordinating players despite the adverse weather conditions. She also had the support of her husband Nigel throughout the tournament.

LEASE Our lease is up for review in April next year for another 10 years. I have been asked to show how we contribute to the community. With the coaching we provide to Albert Park Secondary College as well as offers to the 3 local primary schools for junior players and all supported by our Saturday coaching program for non-members we should be able to satisfy the Port Phillip Authority.

HUGH FOWLER. It appears we have lost touch with our Life Member Hugh. I believe that he is in a nursing home. Please let me know if you have any information about him. NORM CAHILL, the club coach of many years ago has been honoured in Nagambie. Information about Norm has been placed on the noticeboard by Joy Bandy.

I recently had a meeting with Jessie from Tennis Victoria and Josie from Tennis Australia who were very impressed with the way our club operates and our level of membership. They presented some ideas which are optional to us. The incoming committee can assess these ideas and report back to members.

I would like to thank Helen who has been doing our newsletters and coordinating updates on our website. I receive many calls re membership and people comment on how easy our  is to access our website.

Membership numbers are at capacity, the waiting list is in excess of 120 people and people are still keen to join even though there is a 3 to 4 year waiting period.

We are financially sound even after improving amenities for members

e.g. court resurfacing, new lights, (special thanks to Bruce Easton) and veranda blinds.

The Juniors are flourishing. You only need to walk past the courts on a Saturday morning or have watched the recent Junior Club Championships to witness this.

It appears that the members support what we are doing.

Thank you for your support

Peter Davidson”
