Social play
need someone to play againsT? Keen to play tennis without committing to a team?
SUNDAY MORNING
Anytime from 8.30 am you’ll find a group of members keen for a hit. We play a rotating doubles-only formula and everyone gets two serves in the eight-game sets.
A co-ordinator assigns doubles combinations and order of play so everyone gets a fair amount of court time. We ask for $1 donation for new balls. You can come early for a quick set or stay for the entire morning, and, inevitably, you will find a gang keen to head down to a local coffee shop for a coffee at the end of play.
TUESDAY NIGHT
Members are welcome to play doubles from 5.30 pm. The standard is a little higher on a Tuesday night and all are welcome.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
The action kicks off around 5.30 pm with play continuing until around 8.30-9.00 pm. We follow the same guidelines as Sunday social tennis with eight games per set. Around the time the lights go on the barbecue is fired up. It’s BYO meat, fish and drink, but there are always plenty of drinks, nibbles and salads to share.
THURSDAY NIGHT
LADIES NIGHT casual play, 7.30 pm onwards. Game by game rotating doubles format allowing for all skill levels and time for a chat on the sidelines!
If it’s been a while since you’ve picked up your racquet, you’re looking to meet new tennis partners or you find it hard committing time to a regular game but want to join for an occasional ‘hit up’, Thursday nights are a great option to get on the court and connect with the Club.
LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH?
If you are looking for someone to have a hit with outside of those times, then put your name and phone number on the noticeboard in the clubhouse to be contacted by like-minded players.
Having a hit etiquette
order of play:
- Coaching sessions or a booking in progress takes precedence over social play.
- If there are senior and junior members waiting to play, seniors have priority over juniors.
- If a set is being played, whether its seniors or juniors, any arriving member must wait for the set to finish before they can play.
- If a parent who is a member is having a hit, but not actually playing a set, with a young child, they are allowed to play for 20 minutes after other members arrive for a game.
- Both seniors and juniors may have a visitor who has the same rights as the member. But remember that visitors must be signed in and a $10 visitor fee applies to all age groups. Visitors are restricted to two visits per month.
Visitors
Visitors are welcome at the APLTC but must be signed in by a club member, either senior or junior.
According to club by-laws visitors are only permitted to play twice per month.
- Visitors and the member who has introduced them need to register their names and sign the visitors’ book inside the clubhouse.
- Visitors must put $10 in one of the envelopes provided alongside the visitors’ book and then put the envelope in the fee box.
Fob facts
- The fob is your key to the courts as they open the clubhouse doors and gate.
- Fobs are issued to Senior Playing, Temporary and Pensioner Members.
- Junior members who don’t have access to a parental fob can apply for one.
- If you lose your fob, there is a $25 charge to replace it.
- If you haven’t used your fob since it was issued to you it may not work and will need to be revalidated. This can only be done on the system’s server. If this happens or you lose your fob, please contact Peter Davidson 0409 935 936 or email dockland01@hotmail.com
Note: Anyone who lends a fob to a non-member will have it cancelled.
Turn on the lights
Tokens to operate the lights can only be purchased at Bisbas Hardware, 196 Bridport Street.
The cost is $10 for 30 minutes and the lights meter is in the outside cupboard near the water fountain. To keep our neighbours happy, the lights don’t operate after 10 pm. The new lights turn on straight away and there is no waiting time after half an hour.
